Hot and Humid week

Well its definitely been a long week.  Its started with a nice day spent with friends for the holiday, but on Tuesday, it was back to the course.  As I am sure you all saw on the news, we had a wall of dust come through the area the other night, before that it was just plain muggy, add on a golf course and its lakes and sprinklers and it make for a rough round.  I played the big course this week.  Its big and wide, but there is no shade at all.  Its a fun course to play, don't get me wrong, but I prefer the shady narrow fairways at Heron Lakes.  Coyote Run is definitely challenging, With my tendency to hit right, it wasn't even an issue, the fairways are so wide that just about anyone can hit the ball in play, but its a very long course, and on a hot humid day, it didn't make for a lot of enjoyment.

This morning i was back at Heron Lakes playing with the guy i usually go out there with, It was another hot, humid morning, but with the shade it wasn't too bad.  I had a rough round today, for some reason I couldn't manage to sink a single putt, but on a positive note, my drives and approach shots are getting better.  I will get it all together here eventually.  I have slowed down my swing by about 50 percent and have gained a ton of control, but it has hurt my distance, only driving just short of 200 with any control.  I don't like that so much, but can accept it if it makes me better.  I am taking the weekend off, but have been invited to join a group Monday morning, so I will be right back at it.  Have a great weekend.       Mike

A day in the life

Confidence GOLF Mens POWER Hybrid Club Set & Stand BagThis has been a HOT weekend, too hot for golf, that's for sure.  It was 120 in our area yesterday, and not much better today.  So its been a lazy weekend here at the house.  Going to do some cleaning and laundry, try to let my wife relax a bit today.  I haven't said much about her, so I will take this time to do it.  My wife is very supportive of my new hobby, she is also my employer, my friend, and an overall amazing woman.  She runs the cafe where I work 9 months of the year, so we get plenty of time together, yet its not too much.  She is also the chef, and in my opinion, an inspiration to many.
Now back to me, I had been planning on going out this morning, was up at 6 am, and by the time I was ready to go out, the temp was at 90, with 50% humidity and rising, I decided not to get myself sick and stayed in.  Going to hang out and read a book, watch TV, and get the house cleaned up.  Happy 4th of July weekend everyone, back to the golf course on Tuesday morning.

My 1st installment

I will start by introducing myself, I am Mike, a 35 year old with about a month of golfing experience.  Follow along with my in my journey into the sport.  It all started last September when my wife opened her new cafe.  It just happened to be right off of the 1st tee at the Leisure World retirement community.  As the season continued, I noticed the friendships being made on the golf course, and decided it was something that i wanted to try.  Well this past May, I was given the opportunity to play.  I arrived that Sunday morning with a mixed bag of hand me down clubs( I am still using them) and my only knowledge being what i learned from a video game, and trust me, that doesn't translate. From the 1st shot I noticed that I could hit the ball far, but not straight, and the mission began.  I fell in love with the game that day and have been playing as much as time and money will allow.  My goal each time is to improve, and thanks to a few of the residents of the community, I have been able to get a little better each time out.  I am currently using an old set of Wilson 1200 irons, and older Taylor Made putter, Warrior driver, and random fairway woods and wedges until I can come across a decent newer set of clubs, but they work so I cant complain.  I will be going out on Tuesday, so i will update you then.  Have a great weekend.
